One two-month cruise through the Australian Coast was terminated following the tragic passing of an older female passenger who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The passenger had been walking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the excursion for a rest. The liner sailed away leaving her and came back later that day after the crew became aware the passenger was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt found her body the following day.

Officials are looking into the event, alongside investigators and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator stated that travelers and staff on the vessel were told that the remainder of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he further stated that travelers would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to organize the travel back of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also issued an updated announcement, and said they had "issued a order to the Commander" banning any further travelers from getting on the liner.

The representative said that they would visit the liner in the Australian city upon its arrival.

The vessel first departed Cairns on October 24th, and was merely two days into the journey at the moment of the elderly woman's demise. The remote island was the initial destination on the journey.

Travelers on the ship - who usually pay substantial amounts of dollars to take part in the voyage - were taken there for a shore visit with the option of trekking or underwater exploration.

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her family was "surprised and grieved that the liner left Lizard Island after an planned tour without my parent".

In her statement, she portrayed her parent as an "active elderly person" who was a member of a walking club.

She added that she hoped the investigation would be able to identify what "the company should have done that might have protected Her being".

"They requested her to return, alone. Then the ship sailed away, apparently without conducting a roll call.

Operator Response

Via official communication, the Head confirmed that the company was "working closely with officials to assist their investigation".

He mentioned that the firm was "very regretful that this has transpired" and had extended its complete assistance to the family.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The vessel accommodates up to 120 passengers with 46 personnel, according to corporate data. It was specifically designed to enter distant areas of Australia's coast and is outfitted with "small boats" - small boats used to take travelers on land visits.

Occurrences such as this are infrequent, and cruise ships have systems to document which passengers are boarding or leaving, according to industry experts.
