The Actress Says Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Country Apart

The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer fitting to comment publicly countering the Trump presidency, fearing it could worsen polarizing arguments and increase separation across the nation.

‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Notes Lawrence

Speaking with media, the Oscar winner shared, “During the first Trump administration, I thought I was moving hastily without clear direction. But it’s become clear, election after election, Hollywood stars do not make a difference whatsoever on voter decisions.”

Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart.”

Shifting Views

Lawrence has spoken candidly about backing conservative and liberal contenders over the years. Brought up by a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she voted for John McCain in the 2008 election before joining the left-leaning politics and explaining she realized during the Obama era that supporting the GOP was undermining her personal freedoms as a female citizen.

Previous Comments

Several years ago, she remarked that Trump winning the presidency might signal “the end of the world” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. More recently, she lent her support to Vice President Harris, “since I feel she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will make every effort to safeguard women’s health rights.”

Industry Position

Lawrence was joined by many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage celebrities have over the electoral decisions was highlighted by Trump’s victory.

“Another four years feels different,” noted Lawrence regarding his administration. “As he made his plans clear. We were aware of his actions for the previous administration. He was transparent. And that’s what we chose.”

Current Projects

Jennifer Lawrence is highlighting the drama, the filmmaker’s project in which she portrays a young mom who struggles with her psychological well-being in a remote area. Speaking at a media event for the film in Venice, the star commented on the conflict in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s mortifying. What’s taking place is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”

Additional Thoughts

Lawrence added by saying that she was saddened by “the disrespect in the discussions of American politics right now and how that is going to be normalised to the kids now. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”

Lawrence sought to redirect anger about the situation to leaders rather than celebrities. “Keep attention on who is responsible,” she advised, which was interpreted as a nod to the declaration supported by more than 4,000 Hollywood professionals to boycott Israeli film institutions.

Individual Insights

The actor, who earned critical acclaim early in her career for her performance in the acclaimed film, is attracting awards attention for her work in Die, My Love. While Lynne Ramsay has rejected the narrative being understood as one of post-birth struggles and psychosis, the actress said that she connected with elements of her character’s journey after the birth of her new baby, soon after production wrapped.

“It was fear for my son,” she said, “envisioning every potential danger, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a medication called Zurzuvae and I continued it for a short period and it really helped.”

Film Challenges

The actor also mentioned about the liberating necessity of completing nude scenes in the film while she was some months pregnant and limited physically.

“It’s refreshing,” she said, regarding the need to abandon insecurities. “Truly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
